Sometimes I need to keep one for myself...

My husband and I decided to keep this ornament for us. I hardly ever keep my own bits of art, but I made this at the end of an era in our family (moving house and the end of an extremely long and hard period of work for him). I'm also holding back another one but that's because I accidentally trapped a strand of my hair in the resin  I'll be making more of these and listing them for sale in the 'Ornaments' section as soon as possible!

After such a difficult time dealing with recent copyright infringement issues, making heart-shaped ornaments ahead of this year's Christmas season has been an enjoyable and uplifting task. This year I'm applying a thick, glossy coat of resin to each one to add extra shine and protection when hung on display. The downside is that it takes at least 24 hours to dry, so it's time-consuming but absolutely worth it. Gold leaf and glitter makes for an especially striking effect under resin! Copper and gold leaf on 'By Your Side'

'By Your Side' features a blue tabby with gittering gold leaf eyes next to a fluffy gold kitten. It has a luxurious background of resin-coated copper leaf.  Copper leaf turns out to be a bit trickier to work with than gold leaf - it seems harder to transfer from the wax paper onto the canvas. But the effect is stunning, and I particularly like the contrast against blue colours, like in this painting.
